Best Minecraft Controls For Mouse And Keyboard

In this article I will be sharing tips to customise your Minecraft controls which will help you to increase your game efficiency and speed and overall a better game experience. You may already have customised the controls as per your need or you may prefer using the default ones. Its off course a personal choice and I am forcing my controls on you but just letting you know. Though final choice will off course be yours. Let me know in the comments which controls you prefer and will be using after reading this article.

MOVEMENT
Lets start with movement part first, WSAD are the universal key for movements. Nearly every single game use it and most of the players prefer it which is also the best keys for movement. After this comes Jump, Sneak and Sprint. Space is perfect for Jump. For Sneak, the default key is set to Shift which is not that hard to reach but Ctrl which is set by default for Sprint is kind of hard to reach without lifting the palm so I would suggest to change it to X key. X key will be very easy and comfortable to reach by index finger while sprinting.

GAMEPLAY
We don’t need to change Attack/Destroy key, Left Mouse Button is perfect for this and for Use Item/Place Block, Right Mouse button is perfect. I suggest not to use Mouse Wheel at all while playing because it will only slow down your gameplay and that is why I will suggest to use Extra Mouse Button to Pick Block. It will be very fast and it will be super useful for those who have a malfunctioning Mouse Wheel.

INVENTORY
Now comes the inventory part where I am gonna do a lot of changes. First key is Q set as Drop Item but this key is placed very close to the most used key W and dropping item can be very dangerous at times thats why it should not be adjacent to the most used key. I suggest to change this key to G. So use G to drop item, this key is easily reachable with index finger without lifting your palm.

Next we can talk about Hotbar Slots. By default, number keys from 1 to 9 are assigned to Hotbar, which is not fair because to reach the number 9 e need to lift our palm and this will affect our game experience and overall performance. So we will be setting the keys ` 1 2 3 4 R F C V for Hotbar Slots 1 to 9. We will start using backtick key which was just being wasted and then we will move down to use R F C V which are easily reachable from index finger without lifting the palm. these keys will enhance your reaction speed and overall game performance.

After this E is okay to open inventory and F is set by default to swap items with the offhand. Because we already assigned F for Hotbar Slot 7, so we will assign Q to swap items with the offhand. And this sums up all the keys for the inventory part.

MULTIPLAYER
Because we are focusing on survival mode for now so we will skip the creative part but you can assign any left over keys to creative tasks. For reference I am using [ and ] keys fo Load and Save Hotbar Activator. In Multiplayer category all keys are by default set to the best possible key so we will not be changing them and they will remain as Tab to list players, T to open chat, Slash to enter command, and P to open Social Interaction Screen.

MISCELLANEOUS
In miscellaneous category we will be changing some keys. L is okay for advancements, for highlighting players no key is bound by default and also this is used in spectator mode so not of much importance but still can set F6 for this. Then F2 is okay for taking screenshots and we can set F4 to trigger cinematic camera, if you are into recording videos on regular basis then only you may need this. F11 for Full Screen is okay then F5 is by default set to change perspective. which is not easy to reach and you need to lift your palm to press F5 that is why many players don’t even use this feature very frequently. But it should be used very frequently because if improves your FOV while moving and exploring terrain. So I suggest to set extra mouse to change perspective. Now you will be able to change perspective very easily and very frequently and its definitely going to enhance your gameplay experience to a high degree.
